Types of Depression
Depression can take many forms, and recognising these differences is vital for effective support:
- Major Depressive Disorder (MDD): Persistent sadness and loss of interest in daily activities.
- Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia): Long-term low mood lasting for years.
- Bipolar Disorder: Bipolar disorder is a condition where a person goes through cycles of depression and high-energy mania.
- Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Depression linked to seasonal changes, often in winter.
- Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD): Severe mood changes linked to the menstrual cycle.
- Atypical Depression: Depression with temporary mood lifts and heightened sensitivity to rejection.
