The Lions Campus Approach

Substance Use Programme for Adolescents and Young Adults

Dealing with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) can be difficult, affecting daily life, relationships, school performance, and overall wellbeing for young people and their families. At Lions Campus, we take a compassionate, person-centred approach focused on support and positive development. Our focus goes beyond reducing unhelpful patterns — we help build confidence, resilience, and long-term wellbeing.

Our Substance Use Programme for adolescents and young adults supports them in building healthier habits, developing practical strategies, and moving forward with confidence and a sense of purpose.

What is Substance Use Disorder?

Substance Use Disorder (SUD) is a condition where alcohol or drug use becomes hard to control, even when it starts causing harm. While experimenting with substances can be part of adolescence, reliance on them as a primary coping mechanism, frequent use, or disruption to daily life can signal a disorder requiring professional help.

The causes of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) are often complex. On the surface, a young person may be coping with academic pressure, poor sleep, or peer influence. Beneath that, unresolved trauma, family difficulties, negative self-perceptions, or unhelpful thought patterns can contribute. Biological factors like genetics, hormonal changes, and brain chemistry also play a role.

At Lions Campus, we focus on both the symptoms and underlying causes. Through structured support and wellbeing-focused approaches, we help young people regain balance safely and sustainably. Our Substance Use Programmes include mindfulness, skill-building, and holistic support—addressing different aspects of substance use.

Clinically, SUD shows up as intense cravings, inability to control use, and continuation despite negative consequences. It may also bring restlessness, trouble focusing, sleep issues, and physical symptoms like headaches or nausea. Over time, school, friendships, and family life can suffer as the person hides their use and avoids dealing with it.

Types of Substance Use Disorder

Our programmes support young people struggling with different forms of SUD, which are given are as:

  • Alcohol Use Disorder: binge drinking, blackouts, or dependence.
  • Cannabis Use Disorder: daily use, high-potency products, or reliance for sleep or appetite.
  • Stimulant Use Disorder: misuse of ADHD medications, cocaine, or MDMA.
  • Opioid Use Disorder: prescription painkillers or illicit opioids.
  • Sedative and Benzodiazepine Use Disorder: reliance on calming medications beyond medical guidance.
  • Nicotine Dependence: vaping, pouches, or cigarettes.
  • Polysubstance Use: using more than one substance together, increasing risk.

Substance use challenges can often overlap with other emotional or behavioural challenges, such as feelings of anxiety, low mood, OCD, or difficulties with eating or emotional regulation. These can influence one another and make progress more challenging. By supporting both substance use patterns and wider needs, young people can build confidence, develop stability, and move forward in a positive way.

Symptoms or Signs of Substance Use Disorder

Everyone is different, but the signs usually show up across thoughts, feelings, body, and behaviour. They may appear gradually or after a stressful event, and some days might seem normal, making it hard to notice the pattern. Here are common symptoms to watch for:

  • Psychological and emotional Symptoms

Our Approach

How We Support Substance Use Disorder

At Lions Campus, we create individualised programmes for each young person facing substance use challenges. Every programme is designed around their personal needs, combining structured support, coaching, and life skills development to promote positive and lasting progress.

Our Substance Use Programme begins with a consultation. Daily routines are structured to include one-to-one sessions, skill-building, and holistic practices that support resilience and address underlying factors linked to substance use.

Our approach focuses on more than just reducing substance use—it supports emotional wellbeing, healthier ways of responding, and rebuilding relationships. Throughout the journey, our team provides guidance, encouragement, and practical tools, helping young people move forward with confidence and towards a more balanced life.

Our Approach

Mind, Body & Soul

We use an integrated approach that considers emotional, behavioural, and lifestyle needs. We begin with a consultation to understand the factors influencing substance use—such as differences in biology, past experiences, and current stresses. Based on this, we create a personalised programme that adapts as progress develops.

Each programme combines structured support and holistic practices. The goal is not only to reduce substance use but also to build confidence, resilience, and everyday stability—across sleep, study, relationships, and self-belief.

Progress is ongoing. Through regular reviews and continuous support, we ensure the programme remains aligned with individual goals at every stage.
